Your Website Chat Widget Can Now Talk Back with Speech-to-Speech Voice AI
A quick heads-up: this one's in Labs
It's an early feature you turn on yourself in Settings > Labs inside your account. It works, but it's still in development - the documentation and support is limited and not everything will behave perfectly yet.
If you like getting your hands on new things early, switch it on and have a play. If you'd rather wait for the finished, fully-supported version, leave it off and we'll let you know when it lands.
Your website chat widget just got a more natural voice. It now supports Speech-to-Speech Voice AI, which means a visitor can talk to your agent and get a spoken reply back that feels far more like a real conversation.
The best part is how little you have to do. Your existing Voice AI agents still work exactly as they did, and the new Speech-to-Speech agents live in the same place. No separate setup, no rebuilding your widget.
Set up your agent
Start by either creating a new Speech-to-Speech agent, or switching one of your existing Voice AI agents over to a supported Speech-to-Speech model. Both options behave the same once they're live on your widget.
If you'd rather keep your original agent untouched, clone it first and switch the copy to a Speech-to-Speech model. You'll just point your widget at the cloned agent in the next step.
Point your chat widget at it
Head to your Chat Widget settings and open the Agent section. In the screenshot below, you'll see the Agent dropdown - and this is the part that makes life easy. Your Voice AI agents and your Speech-to-Speech agents all sit in the one list.
Pick the agent you want, then save the widget. That's the whole configuration. The system works out which type of agent you chose and launches the right voice experience when a visitor starts talking.
What your visitors will see
The calling experience on your site is exactly the one you already know. Two-way audio, mute and unmute, call status, and end-call controls - all still there and working the same way.
Behind the scenes, the Speech-to-Speech engine only loads when someone actually starts a call with a Speech-to-Speech agent. Your normal widget loads and your existing Voice AI calls aren't slowed down at all.
A nice touch for existing setups
If you switch an agent you're already using over to a Speech-to-Speech model, any widgets linked to that agent update on their own. No re-saving, no re-embedding, no new agent ID to copy across, and no touching the code on your website.
So if you've been wanting your chat widget to hold a more natural back-and-forth, this is a small change on your end for a much smoother conversation on theirs. Have a play and see how it sounds.
